On 6 June 2023, What’s Out Addis will be holding its 8th Bag Show at Sheraton Addis. This is a popular annual evening event that showcases the best bag designers currently working in Addis Ababa.
In recent years, designers have turned their attention to creating beautiful bags using the local leather, which is well known as one of Ethiopia’s main exports. As the craftspeople honed their skills, the designers brought more and more exciting bag designs to the market. Since these new and impressive products were scattered in outlets all over the city, the idea of offering a platform for bag designers to showcase their collections was developed.
For the last eight years, this platform, known as ‘The Bag Show’ has been held at the Sheraton Addis bringing buyers and designers together in one of the successful evening events of the year.
After a selection process, the chosen bag designers are invited to participate in the Bag Show. Over 130 bags are showcased by Ethiopian models in a runway Fashion Show to start the Bag Show event. This offers the audience an opportunity of an overview of the newest bag designs available.
The Fashion Show is followed by an auction of the best bags the designers have chosen from the Fashion Show to donate for the occasion. This is the highlight for the audience, who enter the bidding for their favourite bag.
After the auction, a Pop Up Sale offers a further opportunity to acquire a beautiful bag from the best bag designers.
The proceeds of the auction and a donation of 20% of sales from the Pop Up Sale is donated to Our Father’s Kitchen, a local charity whose mission is to create a community where people have access to the food they need on a daily basis and the fundamental resources to build a better future
The Bag Show is part of the Dashen Culture Club series of events. Dashen Bank representatives will attend the event and facilitate payments for bag sales with their hand-held payment terminal. Accounts with Dashen Bank can also be opened at the event and membership of Dashen Culture Club will be issued.
