Starting out as a small cafeteria tucked behind Parliament back in 1973 with just 8 employees, over the decades since then, family owned Romina has grown in size and popularity now employing over 200. Romina Plc was founded by Girma Taye, a prominent, self-made business man with extensive experience in the hospitality industry. The Romina name is a clever abbreviation of all Girmas sons’ names: Robel, Michael and Narod and Romina is now run by son Michael. The Romina name is well regarded in Addis for being a successful restaurant dynasty.
Currently there are two branches; Arat Kilo and Balderas which is also the Take Away Center. This takeaway center also doubles as their catering quarters providing catering services for a wide variety of occasions and celebrations in a modern and state of the art kitchen. Other Romina diversified businesses include a dairy farm, a coffee export business and Jaquar a bathroom business.
In the heart of Addis and the hustle and bustle of Arat kilo, Romina has maintained an iconic status amongst residents of Addis Ababa and visitors alike. For a quick macchiato, cool drink,
long lingering lunch or a beer after work, the shady outside terrace area continues to attract as many customers as ever. Arat Kilo is also known for its 1.5 litre draft glass!
The Romina menu offers traditional and continental dishes including Pizza and Desserts. There is always something on the menu to suit all palates. Romina food is designed on classical dishes with a modern influence and value priced using good quality local organic and free range produce. Every dish prepared is a reflection of culinary Ethiopia and the globe, creating traditional recipes direct from mothers’ cook books, to modern updates that tell the history of the team, of the chefs who have left their mark on the Romina kitchen including serving staff and managers.
