Jorga Mesfin is widely regarded as one of the most talented contemporary musicians and composers in Ethiopia. Mesfin’s journey began at the age of 17, leading to collaborations with esteemed artists such as Mahmoud Ahmed, Aster Aweke, and Vijay Iyer. His residency at Astatke’s African Jazz Village in Addis Ababa further shaped his musical prowess.
Jorga Mesfin is also the founder of the Ethio-jazz group called Wudasse and he composed the music for the epic Ethiopian film “Teza” directed by Haile Gerima. His work on the film earned him the Best Music Award at the Carthage Film Festival and Best Composition at the Dubai International Film Festival. He has made a significant impact on both Ethiopian and world music scenes with his collaborations including The Nile Project.
This debut album The Kindest One is produced by Muzikawi, an Ethiopian record label, music publisher, studio, artist management, and event organizer with offices in Addis Ababa and Stockholm. With this debut album, Mesfin continues to push the boundaries of Ethio-jazz, cementing his position as a visionary in the genre.
