If there is a common language in our world, it’s music; For some, it’s life itself and nothing else makes sense without it. Teddy Flute was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1984 G.C. At a young age, his brother played a major role in introducing him to the music world; it didn’t take long to earn the name ‘Teddy Flute,’. While attending high school in Addis Ketema, he was active in media centers that gave him access to the entertainment world. The literature club, helped him develop his poetry skills as well as music clubs. With each passing day, he managed to listen to what’s closer to ‘his heart beat’ as he puts it, and yield to the love that comes from the Flute.
He was able to join Yared Music School and did not hesitate to pursue his dream by studying Flute as his major and Piano as his minor. Teddy also published (Poetry and Short Story ‘Simot Zim Beyign’) in 2009 which sold ten thousand copies in two years. Even though he had also completed his Business Administration degree he couldn’t detach himself from music. After He taught Piano at Wafa Music School followed by joining the largest variety orchestra in Ethiopia’s National Theater, which he still performs with today. He also participates at various symphonic orchestras concerts arranged by the AAU Yared Music School.
Teddy would say that his most memorable stage performance was the concert arranged at the Italian Culture Center in 2015 with the composer and Great pianist Girma Yifrashewa; Teddy Flute published a second Amharic Poem book ‘Sikar Ena Fikir” which sold around twelve thousand copies and continues to sell out.
From his poetry collection, Teddy chose eighteen poems and worked on an audio reading combined with original background music arrangements, with music Arranger Biruk Assefa. Teddy Flute has gained popularity with the Ethiopian media and YouTube viewers. Recently he established Kush Acoustic Band with his friends and performs instrumental music, every Friday and Tuesday evenings at the Intercontinental Hotel, Revolving Restaurant. In addition, he continuously delivers his art outputs on his You Tube channel; Kush Music and Art.
