Watching herds of elephants roaming free in the dense palm forest, standing in front of groups of cape buffalo grazing on the vast grasslands, listening to the sounds of hippos grunting, deep in the swamps: Chebera Churchura alone is a testimony that Ethiopia could become a preferred destination for wildlife safaris once again.
From the beauty of Bulo and Bahi Lakes, to the powerful Barbo WaterFalls, from the natural palm forest that resembles the Caribbean, to the heart-stopping big game wild animals, a true paradise for nature seekers awaits visitors right here in the heart of south western Ethiopia’s Dawro Zone, Konta Woreda.
Bold adventurous rangers like Ute and Ashagre work tirelessly with love and passion to make sure that every visitor that comes to the park does not return without being able to closely observe the wildlife of the park.
Not in words, even using the art of photography, which is dubbed “a picture is worth a thousand words”, it is impossible to express the beautiful blessings contained within Chebera Churchura National Park.
Last month, I spent five days in this earthly paradise: immersed in its nature, face to face with buffalos and elephants, admiring Konta’s beautiful culture, promising to visit again soon, and I left half my heart there.
For those who love wild animals, admire nature, and love beautiful cultures, I say, “You haven’t lived if you haven’t been to Chebera Churchura.”
