New Library For Addis Ababa

Abrehot Library (meaning Enlightenment) recently opened its doors to the public. The construction of the spacious and modern 19,000-square-meter facility took almost two years to construct and cost more than 1.1 billion birr. The 4-storey facility, the largest public library in the country, is equipped with 1.5km long shelves that can stock up to 1.4 million books. The library building  also includes  8 bookstores, a delightful children’s reading area and parking that can accommodate 115 vehicles at a time. In addition the library currently houses more than 300,000 local and 120,000 international research papers.

This one of its library is located in 4 kilo and is accessible to everyone; there is even a section for breastfeeding mothers and infants, including a braille section for visually impaired people and a modern cafeteria and meeting hall, theatre and playgrounds.

The organisation EthiopiaReads donated 15,000 children’s books now on display and ready for children to read in the welcoming and bright new children’s library. Books are available in Amharic and other Ethiopian mother tongue languages.
