Green heart Plantscaping is a dynamic start up business aiming to produce the highest quality indoor plants along with attractive planters decorated or made from natural materials. Throughout her life General Manager Eyerusalem Samuel has always been passionate about plants: caring and researching them, lovingly creating a jungle in her own home and greening the community around her. Self-taught, plus her experience and interest in plants brought Eyerusalem to thinking about sharing this passion through a thoughtful business focused on houseplants and the environment.
As a plant customer, she had found a gap in the Ethiopian market when looking for quality plants and attractive planters; the COVID lockdown conveniently provided her with the time to further research and develop the idea until she felt it was the right moment to shape her project.
In Ethiopia most of the available planters are made from artificial materials and so to display a natural plant in a natural planter proved a great idea and was environment friendly. The positive response from customers was immediate and the team of Green Heart continues working hard to perfect their unique design planters both aesthetically and practically.
Bearing in mind the health benefits of houseplants, we are also committed to sharing the art about caring and preserving them: we provide pre and post-sales care assessment to our customers such as suggesting the right plant for the right spot. Green Heart is also able to provide a carefully designed landscaping service of gardens and green areas.
To be sustainable was always a core target for us and we are proud to contribute to the reuse of plastic disposals: around the 50% of our planters are produced from recycled plastic containers for example.
Our project importantly also supports several local social enterprises: we are a premium customer for clay producers like the Kechene Women’s Cooperative and Ensera Pottery Center and we have started to create planters from upcycled glass jars produced by Alternative Addis.
Our workshop produces 3 different collections of planters decorated by natural agave rope handmade locally in the countryside. To give our planters a characteristic Ethiopian flavour, we are also decorating them with traditional artisanal Ethiopian fabric “telet”.
Last but not least our products are all proudly made in Ethiopia by Ethiopian artisans with love. The company employs 4 people permanently and after just two years in the market, we have already become a leader in the upmarket of indoor plants with the goal of of becoming the leading company!
