Introducing Chebera Churchura National Park

Chebera Churchura National Park is a newly established National Park located in Konta Woreda, Dawro Zone. It is located 480 km south of Addis on the Addis–Jimma-Chida-Ameya road. It has a total area of 11,900 ha and elevations range from 500-2000 masl. This park used to be part of the Kulo Konta Controlled Hunting Area specifically developed to hunt Elephants. However, the rapid decline of Elephants in Africa due to habitat loss and poaching and the urgent need to develop a conservation  area where this species could be protected in Ethiopia is a leading objective for its establishment.

This park is one of the relatively untouched and rich wilderness areas but the least visited and known park in the country. The park comprises unique and attractive mountain forests, tall-grassed savannah habitat and thick woodland forests. The landscape is rugged with a varied landscape of rolling hills and mountainous lands. The area also contains a number of both cold and hot springs, historical caves and the Meka Forest (with African Elephants). The park is an ideal site to view Elephants and Buffalo.
