Aklill recently held the first of its kind rug exhibition. Aklill, meaning ‘garland crown’ in Amharic, is a company that develops ideas, products and solutions for sustainable living. The company first introduced Sheba socks in 2018.
At Aklill they promote culture by designing products that are inspired by Ethiopian heritage. They support sustainability by using environmentally friendly and sustainable materials, such as bamboo. They are innovative in the way they design their products and run their business.
“Here at Aklill, we believe our accessory choices tell the story of who we are – our taste, culture, history, and unique sense of self. Our accessory designs are inspired by culture as we show a piece of the Ethiopian way of life in our designs while maintaining a contemporary look. Our products aim to start a conversation. We want our unique products to remind people about environmental issues and inspire them to take action while celebrating Ethiopian Heritage. Hence, we produce bamboo-based rugs, blankets, pillowcases, and socks” said the founder, Yididiya Damtew.
