The Ethiopian Wildlife Protection Authority employees have planted trees in the Entoto Nature Park during the 4th round of the Green Legacy Program.
FDRE Tourism Minister Ambassador Nasise Chali delivered a message on the tree planting program stating that the current green footprint program is to create many national parks managed by the authority and to help the growth of tourism in the country. The biggest task is not only planting trees but also providing proper monitoring and care and that everyone should all work responsibly to take care of the trees.
Mr. Solomon Mekonen, Deputy Director General of Ethiopian Wildlife Protection Authority, said that his office planted and cared for more than 3 thousand trees last year. The deputy chief said that Ethiopian Wildlife Protection Authority is working with detailed attention addressed to forest cover expansion. The director said that in the past four years, he has been involved with planting more than 428 thousand seedlings in 191.36 hectares
Mr. Mekoya Mamo, the director of the Ethiopian Heritage Trustees Association confirmed that the Ethiopian Heritage Trustee Association is doing much work in the field of expanding seedlings and saving Ethiopia’s forest resources. The director has said they have planted more than 3 million seedlings found in Ethiopia alone and distributed 2 million 4 hundred thousand seedlings to different organizations and regions. He stated that planting a tree is not only an act that needs to be taken care of but also to take care of the 3 thousand trees planted here today. Employees from the Ministry of Tourism and other organizations, invited artists and members of Ethiopian Culture and Tourism Journalists Association have participated in the program.
