You are what you eat. This was true before Christ and remains anno Domini. This is why we advocate food as medicine.
There is in fact overwhelming clinical evidence to justify the use of Whole-Food Plant-Based diet for the prevention of chronic degenerative diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes type 2 etc. and the support of optimal health.
The three most fatal diseases in developed countries are heart disease, cancer, and stroke. All three have been found to be linked to what we eat primarily. As a matter of fact, the basis of many chronic diseases is a metabolic disturbance and nutritional deficiencies, thus the best treatment approach is good nutrition with personalized lifestyle modification program, such as moderate exercise regiment, the use of dietary supplements etc.
Not surprisingly, vegetarians and vegans have significantly lower rates of the above mentioned non-communicable diseases than those who use animal products frequently.
