Every thought and every emotion causes a cascade of hundreds, if not thousands, of neuropeptides and hormones that orchestrate a symphony of positive and negative effects within the body. Thus, negative emotions such as fear, anxiety, grief, and worry will cause negative impact and literally poison the body.
Rarely has the threat of disease occupied so much of our thinking like the current COVID – 19 threat. And human life has always defined itself by its opposition to the threats it’s faced.
For weeks, almost every newspaper has stories about the coronavirus pandemic on its front page; radio and TV programs have back-to-back coverage on the latest infection and death tolls; and depending on who you follow, social media platforms are filled with frightening statistics.
Such a constant bombardment can result in fear and anxiety. All our emotions echo throughout every cell in the body, alter endocrine balance, impair blood supply and blood pressure, affect digestion, change body temperature, and produce a sustained state of emotional stress, causing physiological and hormonal changes that lead to disease. A daily reminders of COVID 19 may even affect our social interactions etc.
It was Dr. Randolph Stone who said: “As you think, so you are.” That is why it is so important to pay close attention to our thoughts and to our emotions that are running through our minds every day.
Brian Herbert once wrote: “Once you have explored a fear, it becomes less terrifying. Part of courage comes from extending our knowledge.” I think the time has come for us to explore our fear about COVID – 19. The Virus or COVID – 19 might not be the real enemy, but our approach to it could be.
Let me now finish with a very interesting quotation from Marie Curie: “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, So that we may fear less.” Marie Curie
