I am so excited to introduce this new section on Fashion in What’s Out.
As some of you might know, I am the founder and organizer of Hub of Africa Addis Fashion Week, which is held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia annually, promoting the African fashion industry for the past 10 years.
Just to give you a little background about myself; I worked with Tadias, an Ethiopian American Lifestyle Magazine based in the USA as their Fashion Page Editor. At that time, I had the honor of introducing famous Ethiopian designers like Amsale and others.
With this new opportunity and the fast-growing African fashion industry, there will be so much to share with you and I look forward to bringing to light interesting and exciting developments in the fashion industry!
While planning this first edition, I felt I should share where my passion and inspiration to promote the fashion industry comes from.
It all started with my mom, who used to knit, crotchet and sew our clothes. There were six of us – two girls and four boys. She loved making a lot of things by hand and enjoyed it. So, my first interview starts with my mom by digging deep into where her passion and inspiration came from as well as to have an idea what fashion was like in Ethiopia during the 60s and 70s.
Please look out for it on the next edition.
