The Gumma Film Awards is an Ethiopian domestic film award that has been held in Addis Ababa annually since 2014. It was founded by film director Yonas Berhene Mewa to establish a platform for Ethiopian film industry professionals to work together to create a film industry that promotes Ethiopian culture, values and Ethiopian stories. In addition, the vision of the Gumma Awards is to bring the Ethiopian film industry up to a world-standard cinema industry.
Over the last ten years, the Gumma Film Awards have become a premium event to reward acclaimed domestic Ethiopian films, presenting outstanding individuals and collective efforts in the industry over 29 categories, as determined by industry professionals.
As an enchanting, glamorous and exciting event for the entertainment industry, the annual Gumma Film Awards are broadcast by several television stations every year for the millions of eager Ethiopian movie lovers to tune in and watch the award ceremony.
