Misrak Terefe is a well-known poet and performer based in Addis Ababa. She is a founding member of the Tobiya Poetic Jazz group, which holds hugely popular monthly literary/musical events. She was the first female poet to put out her own VCD and is featured in other joint publications as well as on the Tobiya DVD (vol 1). She has published one book of poems, called Chew Berenda (Salt Market). While on tour in the United Kingdom recently to promote an anthology of Ethiopian poetry in English, Misrak paid a visit to Ambassador Teferi Melese in his office and he assured her of the Embassy’s readiness to collaborate with her team to promote Ethiopian poetry.
An anthology of Ethiopian Poetry in English entitled, “Songs We Learn From Trees the UK Tour”, featured Ethiopian poets including Bedlu Wakjira, Misrak Tefera, Kebedech Tekleab, Hama Tuma, Mihret Kebede, and Alemu Tebeje in London recently.
