Social Enterprise Kine Circus

Kiné Circus consists of a group of artists raised within the circus world in Addis Ababa and excited to share the joy of their art form with the community around them and with the world.  Circus arts have the power to build personal well-being and uplifting social spirits for the local community. Kiné Circus is a safe space for performing artists and children, locally and internationally, to come and train, practice, rehearse, perform, meet and mingle, collaborate and exchange ideas and skills. Kine Circus social enterprise is built upon the philosophy of community building and creative collaboration.

What you’ll find at Kiné:

A circus school, which includes free community classes for children and youths every weekday afternoon and paid classes on weekends and holidays.

• Shows and live performances on a monthly basis.

• A unique “KineAwi” Ethiopian contemporary circus identity.

Kiné Circus was founded by Eyob Teshome and Shimeles Getachew, experienced circus artists who had worked together for more than 10 years in the same circus company. Sharing the same belief in the power of circus arts to change individual lives and build social bond, Eyob and Shimeles decided to initiate a new home for their artistic endeavors and their community.

In addition to circus shows and training, Kine’ Circus is a social enterprise focusing on the connection between circus arts and Ethiopia’s unique cultural identity. Our goal is to elevate Ethiopia’s circus culture through incorporating social circus activities. Social Circus is the application of the art and culture of the circus to help address a broad range of social issues.
