2020 Bridge Maker award presented to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus director general of WHO
Congratulations to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Director-General of the World Health Organization. He stated that he was “deeply honoured to receive the 2020 Bridge Maker Award, from Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, on behalf of WHO and all the health workers and caregivers in countries around the world, who have been on the frontlines of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic”.
The Bridge Maker Award symbolizes the power of partnership and solidarity. “I thank the 14th August Committee of Norway, Aamir Sheikh, Sven Mollekleiv and all the jury members for this acknowledgement and great honour. My deepest gratitude to the Prime Minister Solberg, Health Minister Bent Høie and the whole Norwegian government for making health a political and social priority but also for their response to COVID-19, and clear communications and engagement with Norway’s people during this crisis. In just nine months, the pandemic has changed our world in so many ways. Never in our lifetimes have the principles of partnership and collaboration; of compassion and kindness; and of equality and humility been so critical as they are in this moment”.
Dr. Tedros has also been profiled by Time magazine as one of 100 most influential people of 2020. www.time.com/collection/100-most-influential-people-2020/5888335/tedros-adhanom-ghebreyesus
